ATTN : GETTIN OLDER AND TRYING TO STILL DO THE THINGS THAT KEEP YOU IN SHAPE? BIKRAM YOGA! I just want to take a moment to spread the word to my FB friends. Somehow, someway, I'm still cranking out the marathons. Just did #20. Still no knee issues. No other issues. But it hasn’t been easy! There's no question as we get older, more "stuff" goes wrong. We want to go out there and stay in shape, but you just can’t get started and exercise like you used to….or you will get hurt! Especially with running. I find the reward from running pretty substantial, but getting there can often be painful with your typical injuries. When you’re 50 you just can’t jump off the bed and head out for a run no problem like you were 20 any time you want without doing anything preventative. With age we become more injury prone. There’s been a few saviors but the most important one, without a doubt, is Bikram Yoga, of which I just hit my 10 year anniversary. Any of my FB friends that want to up their exercise game and/ or running whilst in our "middle ages": Start doing hot yoga of some sort. If you haven't done it before: It’s not easy. Bikram is not the kind of meditational yoga where you only stretch a little or sit around. Bikram is hard work, but an hour out of your day and the rewards are huge: Short term and long term. Short-term you feel phenomenal. But long-term, your spine stays straight (no shrinking!), you're healthier in so many ways, and most importantly you’re still able to be active the way you want. Post yoga you feel like you can bounce around again like you're in your 20’s. I recommend everyone if they haven't done it, give it a shot. If you've tried it and it was too hard, try again. My fav place to go is Hot Yoga 4 You: Get an hour and a half Bikram class condensed down to one hour: It’s little more intense and a bit harder, but you're in and out of there! So give it a shot: Maybe I’ll see you there!
